West GloucestershireArt Society |
Founded in 1935 by a group of Forest of Dean artists before being reformed
in 1965 by the then tutor at Lydney Art College, the object of the Society
is the same now as it was when founded, i.e. to promote and encourage
interest in the practice of visual arts as a vital part of everyday life.
The activities of the Society include :
We usually have an exhibition in Coleford at Easter, coinciding with the Coleford Carnival of Transport, and at Staunton during the Forest of Dean Open Studios weekends, which are in July each year. Other exhibitions are arranged during the year. Each Wednesday and Friday we hold drop-in art sessions at the West Dean Centre (Bream Community Centre). Members and non-members can enjoy doing their own artwork in an artistic atmosphere with like-minded folk. Assistance is available for those that would like it. The cost is just £5 for the morning. (The cafe in the West Dean Centre is open on Friday mornings.) The Society is always willing to extend a warm welcome to new members.
